A Date That Ended in Tragedy: Woman Found Bu-ried Days After Dis-appearance, Man Charged With M-u-rder

A young Arizona woman’s family is mourning an unimaginable loss after what was supposed to be a first date ended in tragedy, with investigators alleging the outing had been carefully planned as part of a premeditated killing.

Twenty-one-year-old Arianna Jones was found buried in a shallow grave in a remote desert area near Lake Pleasant, and authorities have charged 24-year-old Domonic Rodolico with first-degree murder in connection with her death.

According to an arrest affidavit, investigators believe Arianna met Rodolico through social media before agreeing to go on a date with him on July 5.

Police allege that what appeared to be an ordinary evening quickly became a carefully orchestrated sequence of events that ultimately ended with Arianna’s death.

Investigators believe Rodolico visited the remote desert location multiple times before picking Arianna up, allegedly preparing the area in advance.

According to the affidavit, detectives found evidence at the scene that they say supports allegations of planning and premeditation.

Investigators reported discovering concrete bags and other materials that they believe had been brought to the location before Arianna arrived.

Police allege Rodolico later drove to Arianna’s apartment and picked her up for their planned evening together.

According to investigators, the pair visited a Harkins movie theater where surveillance footage captured them purchasing refreshments before watching a movie together.

Detectives say security cameras later recorded both Arianna and Rodolico leaving the theater carrying white Harkins souvenir cups.

Those ordinary moments would later become an important part of the criminal investigation.

According to cellphone data reviewed by detectives, the pair traveled north from the theater into a remote desert area after leaving the cinema.

Investigators allege that both phones remained in the area for approximately 45 to 50 minutes.

Police say Arianna’s cellphone then abruptly disconnected from the network, a change investigators believe was consistent with the device being powered off or otherwise disabled.

According to the affidavit, Rodolico’s phone remained active for approximately ten more minutes before leaving the area.

When Arianna failed to return home or contact her loved ones, her family reported her missing on July 7.

Investigators reviewing her cellphone records identified communications between Arianna and Rodolico before her disappearance.

Detectives subsequently began surveillance operations focused on Rodolico while continuing the missing person investigation.

According to the affidavit, investigators observed Rodolico cleaning his vehicle on multiple occasions.

Police allege he vacuumed the rear passenger compartment of his Nissan Sentra before wiping down portions of the interior with towels.

Detectives further reported observing him later cleaning the inside of the vehicle’s trunk after returning home.

Investigators eventually searched the remote desert location where Arianna’s cellphone last connected to the network.

There, police discovered Arianna’s body buried in what they described as a shallow grave.

According to the affidavit, detectives recovered numerous items of evidence from the burial site.

Among those items were the same style of Harkins souvenir cups that surveillance footage allegedly showed Arianna and Rodolico carrying after their movie.

Investigators also reported finding concrete mix bags, plastic water bottles, latex gloves, a bra, a hair accessory consistent with one Arianna wore during the date, and pieces of a condom wrapper.

According to the affidavit, one concrete bag contained what investigators described as a red-colored substance along with an eyelash strip.

Authorities have not publicly released Arianna’s official cause of death while the investigation continues.

During questioning, investigators say Rodolico initially gave detectives a detailed account that they later concluded was false.

According to the affidavit, he claimed he and Arianna had driven to another location after the movie before two unknown men suddenly approached the vehicle.

Police say Rodolico alleged the unidentified men attacked both of them and fatally stabbed Arianna while he managed to escape.

Investigators further allege Rodolico described extensive blood inside his vehicle while claiming he fled as the attack continued.

According to detectives, Rodolico later admitted that account was untrue.

Police say he then changed his story again, alleging that an unidentified man instructed him to bring Arianna into the desert but insisting he did not know she would be killed.

Investigators noted that Rodolico was unable to explain how those alleged instructions had been communicated or provide evidence supporting that claim.

According to the affidavit, detectives also confronted him about his earlier trips to the same desert location before picking Arianna up.

When investigators directly asked whether he had killed Arianna, the affidavit states that Rodolico denied responsibility but allegedly hesitated before answering.

Detectives further reported that he struggled to maintain consistent eye contact and declined to answer several questions investigators considered significant.

The allegations contained in the arrest affidavit represent investigators’ account of the evidence gathered and have not been proven in court.

Rodolico remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty through the judicial process.

Court records indicate he is currently being held on a $2 million bond while the criminal case proceeds.

For Arianna’s family, however, the legal process cannot undo the heartbreaking loss of a young woman whose future was taken away after what should have been an ordinary evening.

Instead of returning home after a night at the movies, her loved ones were forced to search for answers before learning she had been found buried in the desert.

As the investigation continues, detectives remain focused on determining every detail surrounding Arianna Jones’ final hours while prosecutors prepare to present the case in court.

Meanwhile, family members continue mourning the loss of a beloved daughter and loved one, hoping that the pursuit of truth and justice will eventually provide answers to the questions that now accompany an unimaginable tragedy.
