Eight days have passed since 15-year-old Ja’Derrius Minnieweather vanished, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and profound agony for his family and the Baton Rouge community. The area locally referred to as “Ghost Town” has become the epicenter of a massive, ongoing search operation, as his loved ones and volunteers refuse to surrender hope for his safe return.

A Relentless Pursuit

The most recent phase of the search lasted over three hours, drawing together a determined coalition of family, friends, and the volunteer rescue organization known as the United Cajun Navy. Before embarking on the grueling task at hand, the group paused for a moment of collective prayer, seeking strength before venturing into the hazardous terrain.

On the ground, the operation demanded not only dedication but also extreme caution to ensure potential evidence remained undisturbed. Josh Gill, Incident Commander with the United Cajun Navy, issued stern warnings to the volunteers: “Anything that you question, you stop right there. Do not touch it. don’t touch. ” Big, big, no, no right? This is an open investigation.”

The team meticulously combed through property near the Scenic Highway before crossing the river to continue their sweep along the levee and adjacent areas. The unwavering resolve in the eyes of those searching served as a testament to their unbreakable bond with the missing teen. Bobby Minnieweather, Ja’Derrius’s cousin, shared his determination through tears: “We were all over this mug today, Ja’Derrius. We ain’t stopping till we find you, till you come home, Ja’Derrius.”

Pain, Hope, and Unspoken Promises

Throughout these long days, heartfelt messages from Ja’Derrius’s cousins have resonated deeply within the community. Bobby Minnieweather, Jr. spoke directly to the missing teen: “I love you, I want you to come back home to your mom and dad and all your family members.” Meanwhile, Veronica Minnieweather reiterated the power of their enduring love and their refusal to quit: “This search, it ain’t over, I love you Ja’Derrius.”

According to Gill, while the team has yet to pinpoint the teenager’s location, the search strategy has been bolstered by systematically eliminating cleared zones. The team plans to spend the evening studying maps to refine their tactical approach for the following day. Gill stated: “We won’t stop until he’s found one way or the other. We’ll continue our social media blast. We’ll continue communicating with the parents and the family and the community, we want to find this young man.”

Unforeseen Leads in an Ongoing Investigation

Ja’Derrius’s disappearance remains the subject of an active investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department. During their efforts to uncover leads, authorities came into contact with a 16-year-old girl and, upon inspecting her mobile device, discovered suspicious communications with 50-year-old Maurice Parms.

Parms was arrested this past Wednesday on charges involving indecent behavior and computer-aided solicitation. Nevertheless, law enforcement officials remain cautious; at this juncture, the police have not confirmed any definitive link between Parms and the mysterious vanishing of Ja’Derrius Minnieweather. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to pursue all available lines of inquiry.
