Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Curtis Jackson’s relationship has been strained over the years
After 50 Cent became an executive producer on the new Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Netflix documentary, their long-held feud has been explained.
Sean Combs: The Reckoning is produced Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson, who has had some noticeably bad blood with Diddy for quite some time.
For nearly 20 years, 50 Cent hasn’t been pulling punches when it comes to his dislike of the convicted music mogul, who was was found guilty earlier this year on just two of five charges – two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
The rapper was ultimately found not guilty of the sex trafficking of Cassie Ventura or his former girlfriend, Jane, while also avoiding the heaviest charge brought against him, in racketeering conspiracy.
The new doc unpacks the allegations made against Diddy, now that he is currently locked up at Fort Dix prison in New Jersey until May 2028 after being handed a four year sentence.
While 50 Cent has said there is no feud between him and Diddy on an appearance on Good Morning America, and that his documentary isn’t personal, there have been instances that seem to point otherwise.
2000s: The start of the ‘beef’
The alleged beef between the pair seems to have been started early in 50 Cent’s career, after he worked with Combs on several hits from the Notorious B.I.G.’s posthumous 1999 album Born Again.
Richard Gere’s 1993 Oscars speech that got him banned
It was there that in one verse, he rapped: “I run the city, and I don’t dance around like Diddy.”
In another instance of alleged tensions, when 50 Cent wanted to sign rapper Mase, who had worked with Combs for some time, he went on The Howard Stern Show, and said their deal fell through because Combs was being ‘unreasonable’, claiming he thought Combs ‘felt like Mase was the last piece to his legacy’.
50 would later release ‘The Bomb’ where he alleged Combs knew who murdered the Notorious B.I.G. in March 1997 after being shot in a drive-by.

He said in the track: “Man Puffy know who hit that n****.”
Not only did he accuse him of being in the know of Biggie’s death, but he also alluded to his ‘white parties’, where he rapped that he didn’t want to be part of it.
Diddy’s notorious ‘freak off’ parties, also known as white parties, were unpacked in detail during the trial.
2010s drama
In 2010, 50 mentioned Combs in an interview with Hot 93.7 FM, where he claimed that Combs is ‘not an artist’, NME reported.
He added: “An artist would be someone who wrote actually something on a record.”
Just one month later, 50 then created an online petition for Combs to ‘let BIG rest in peace’ after Combs was referencing the late rapper in his music and was named as an executive producer credit on the 2009 biopic Notorious.

“Biggie’s name should never have become Combs’ Black Card,” The Guardian reported the petition as reading. “When was the last time Diddy really was biggin up his brother, not biggin up his bank?”
A few times, 50 then went on to slam Combs’ music, and would even do so during interviews.
Then, he came after his brands in 2016 when he told the Drink Champs podcast that Ciroc, the vodka brand co-owned by Combs from 2007 until 2023, wasn’t vodka after he was promoting the drink Effen.
Apparently, Ciroc is made with grapes and vodka, whereas Effen was 100 percent vodka.
Combs then denied the beef during an 2018 episode of The Breakfast Club, where he claimed 50 ‘loves’ him, stating: “I don’t have no beef with Fif. He loves me. Y’all can’t see that he loves me? You really think that’s hate? You know he loves me.”
He added: “When he does that, it’s like funny to me. I don’t really take it personally. I know he has a different sense of humor. He’s just not in my life. We don’t have to never cross paths, and I will never say nothing negative about him, ’cause that’s just not me.”

2020s beef and allegations
For Combs, the 2020s is where things got real and fast.
In October 2023, 50 alleged that Combs was involved in the death of Tupac Shakur, who, like Biggie, was killed in a drive-by shooting in 1996.
Combs has long denied any involvement in either death.
“Damn so pac got lined by brother love. LOL,” 50 wrote, referencing Diddy’s pseudonym, Brother Love.
This came after Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis was charged with Shakur’s murder in 2023 and he claimed to police in 2008 and 2009 Combs had a $1 million hit out on Shakur and Suge Knight, who was in the car with Shakur at the time of his death.
To that, Combs told the podcast hosts: “We don’t talk about things that are nonsense. We don’t even entertain nonsense, so we not even gonna go there, with all due respect.”
Two months later, 50 shared that his production company, G-Unit Film & Television, would product a documentary about Combs and his sexual abuse allegations, stating on X: “Proceeds from this Documentary will go to victims of Sexual Assault and Rape.”
2025 legal troubles
After Combs was convicted in July, 50 reacted on social media with an Instagram post where he likened him to John Gotti, the New York Gambino crime lord.
“Diddy beat the Rico, that boy a bad man!,” he wrote, referring to the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) before adding: “He like the Gay John Gotti.”
Then, when it was announced that Diddy had asked President Donald Trump for an official pardon so he could be released, 50 once again took to Instagram to write: “Man you can’t get No pardon running ya mouth like that! LOL Get Out of here.”
Upon 50s documentary release earlier this week, Combs’ spokesperson branded it ‘a shameful hit piece’ and claimed ‘Netflix relied on stolen footage that was never authorised for release’.
Part of a statement read: “It is equally staggering that Netflix handed creative control to Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson – a longtime adversary with a personal vendetta who has spent too much time slandering Mr. Combs.”
Oddly, the statement was followed by the news that Combs’ supposedly had a bouquet of flowers sent to 50 Cent while he was performing at a club in Miami on 4 December.
50 shared the news online, snapping a picture and writing: “What kinda g*y s**t is this Diddy send me flowers at club 11 LOL. Why all the four play get busy, you know I’m stupid.”
Looks like you’re all caught up.
