Police were trying to speak with a 40-year-old man when he d!:ed after falling from an eighth-floor balcony
A man has died after falling from an eighth-floor balcony in Sydney’s east while police were trying to speak to him, sparking a critical incident response.
Officers arrived at an apartment complex in Onslow Avenue at Elizabeth Bay shortly before 8am on Sunday as part of an ongoing investigation.
The officers attempted to speak to a 40-year-old man inside the home.
A 38-year-old woman who was also inside the unit refused entry to the officers before she left the scene, police said.
The man then fell from the balcony while police were still at the unit.
It is understood the attending police did not witness the fall.
He was treated by paramedics for critical injuries and died at the scene.
A crime scene has been established and a critical incident team from Inner West Police Area Command is investigating.
The incident will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
