A worker has suffered a horrific hand injury after becoming trapped in a meat mincing machine at a well‑known Adelaide Central Market butcher.
Emergency services swarmed the Marino Fine Foods about 5pm on Friday after reports a man in his early 20s had his hand caught in the industrial equipment.
Paramedics treated the worker at the scene before rushing him to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with a significant hand injury.
Curtains were quickly erected around the family‑run shop as SES crews worked inside, while three fire trucks and two ambulances lined Gouger St during the peak of the response.
The popular butcher — a long‑standing Central Market business — was closed for several hours.
Workplace safety authorities are expected to examine how the accident occurred.
“SafeWork SA was notified of an incident at Adelaide Central Market on Friday 20 February. Inspectors attended the scene and enquiries are continuing,” a spokesperson said.
