A young British woman’s move to Australia to start a new life with her boyfriend has ended in tragedy after she died in a car crash just month after touching down.

Annie Evans-Lewis, 21, was driving a silver Suzuki Grand Vitara on Bullaring-Pingelly Rd in East Pingelly, 166km southeast of Perth, when it hit a tree about 3.30pm on Saturday.

Ms Evans-Lewis was critically injured in the crash and was flown to Royal Perth Hospital, but later died.

The 21-year-old relocated from Wales to Perth in September 2025 to be with her boyfriend Cai James and “begin their wonderful lives together.”

Mr James secured a three-year farming sponsorship and Ms Evans-Lewis moved to Western Australia to be with him.

“She was more than happy to join me for the next chapter of our lives,” he told the BBC.

They spent Saturday together shopping and going out for lunch, before Mr James dropped Ms Evans-Lewis at a farm where her car was.

She left before Mr James, who saw her car on the side of the road a short time later.

“As I got closer, I realised who it was, and my life changed instantly,” he told the BBC.

Her mother, aunties and cousin are travelling to Perth to repatriate the 21-year-old back to Wales.

A GoFundMe page that has raised more than $69,000 was started by her cousin Emily Davies to help with costs.

She said Ms Evans-Lewis’ family and friends were feeling indescribable pain since her tragic passing.

“She will always be remembered as the most energetic, chaotic, hilarious, loving, kind and down to earth person,” Ms Davies wrote.

“Any donations will be so deeply appreciated, we just want our girl home, to celebrate her life, her character, and show her the love she always showed us.”
