Prince Harry ‘wants reassurance’ Royal Family will be ‘polite’ to Meghan

The Duke is reportedly seeking assurances ahead of a potential visit to the UK with his wife later this year.

Prince Harry is reportedly seeking assurances over how Meghan Markle will be treated if she accompanies him to the UK later this year. Harry is set to return to his homeland for the Invictus Games, but it is yet to be confirmed if he will do so alongside his wife.

According to one royal insider, the Duke of Sussex is seeking assurances that family members will be “polite” after years of strained relations between the pair and the remainder of the Firm. A source said: “Harry is coming in with all these demands on behalf of Meghan, and it’s rubbing a lot of people up the wrong way.

“Harry says he has no choice, based on how badly things have gone in the past,” reports Radaronline.com.

Meghan has only accompanied her husband to the UK twice since they stepped down from royal duties six years ago, in an event dubbed “Megxit”.

Markle’s only returns to England since 2020 were for two major royal events: a brief appearance at the National Service of Thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee at St Paul’s Cathedral in June 2022, and the late monarch’s funeral in September that year.

Since stepping down from royal duties, the pair have regularly courted controversy with their reflections on the family and its working life.

Meghan sparked anger in an interview with Oprah, in which she was accused of mocking customs and traditions in interactions with Harry’s grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Harry himself was scathing about several members of the firm in his memoir ‘Spare’, including his brother Prince William and his stepmother Queen Camilla.

His reported demands are said to have caused irritation among several members of the family, coming on the back of years of animosity between the two parties.

The source added: “The last thing he wants is Meghan walking into a situation where she feels judged, and he says all he’s asking is that she’s treated with basic respect and not cast as the bad guy before anything’s even happened.”

They added that the duke is insisting he get “reassurance” from his family that “everyone will keep things polite and give her a fair chance.”

“A large number of senior royals are outraged that Harry’s had the audacity to make all these demands ahead of his trip,” the source continued.

“The fact that, once again, it all centres around Meghan – and presumably ensuring she’s treated with kid gloves.”
