Two People Were Found D3:ad Inside a Home in Charleville… The Detail About the Child at the Scene Is Haunting Everyone

A man and woman have been found dead, and a toddler rescued by police, after a “violent” incident at a property in rural Queensland.

Police were called out to a property in Charleville after reports of a serious assault about 6pm on Wednesday.

When police arrived they were met by a “violent and confronting scene,” with officers alerted to further weapons inside the home.

Assistant Commissioner Matthew Vanderbilt said the officers made the decision to tactically withdrew for their own safety, however, as they made to withdraw police found a toddler on the front stairs of the home.

Vanderbilt said the officers put themselves “back into harms way” to go back and grab the child before again retreating.

A Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) was declared and specialist teams from Brisbane were called in to assist.

Several hours later, the PSPA was revoked about 1.42am on Thursday when police found the bodies of 45-year-old man and 23-year-old woman inside the home.

There are unconfirmed reports the woman may have been pregnant.

Police have yet to formally identify the man and woman and their exact cause of death has not been confirmed, however, detectives are continuing to determine if the incident was a possible a murder-suicide.

“This is a very complex scene,” Vanderbilt said.

“When there are children involved it just amplifies that trauma even further.”

The toddler was taken to a local hospital unharmed and is now in the care of authorities.

“It’s quite clear though that that child may well have witnessed what has been a tragic set of events,” Vanderbilt said.

Police said they believe the man and woman had died sometime throughout the night, but have not given an exact time of death.

“There will still need to be quite a lot of work to determine a full picture here,” Vanderbilt said.

“Charleville is a small tight knit community…it will be something that has a tragic impact on the wider community.”

The matter will be investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, and a report is being preparing for the coroner.
