A 15-month-old baby and a man have died after an L-plater driver allegedly collided with a ute and then a van in Sydney’s west.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Mamre and Abbotts Road in Kemps Creek about 10.40pm on Monday.
On arrival, officers found a small sedan and a van crashed head-on.
A man in the passenger seat of the sedan died at the scene, while a 25-year-old woman and her 15-month-old son in the back seats were critically injured.
Both were rushed to hospital with multiple injuries.
Tragically, the child died several hours after arriving at hospital.
The 21-year-old L-plater driver behind the wheel of the sedan was taken to Liverpool Hospital for assessment and mandatory testing.
The driver of the van, a 45-year-old man, escaped the crash with minor injuries and underwent mandatory testing at the same hospital.

Police attended the scene along with Highway Patrol officers and specialists from the Crash Investigation Unit.
The investigation is ongoing.
