A Florida family is in mourning after a father of six was shot and killed outside his home.

According to NBC Miami and WPLG, police in Miami Gardens, Fla., were called to a home on the city’s 213th Street at around 6:30 p.m. local time on Friday, Feb. 20, for reports of a shooting.

Officers arrived on the scene and found a man — later identified as 45-year-old Gabriel Hubbert — suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Hubbert was transported to a local hospital, where he died.

A suspect, who has not yet been identified, fled the scene in a white van and was later taken into custody, police said.

Surveillance video of the incident captured the sound of multiple gunshots just after 6 p.m. that night, NBC Miami reported. The suspect’s van was also spotted driving by the house about three minutes before the shooting.

Police confirmed that the suspect was arrested late on Saturday night, Feb. 21.

Hubbert’s friends and family gathered for a vigil outside the house soon after the shooting, lighting candles and sharing photos of the proud dad.

“He didn’t have a hurt in his heart for people,” Hubbert’s wife, Guerla, shared with WPLG. “They would do him wrong, and he would still forgive them.”

“This man was not into anything where he deserved to get gunned down,” Hubbert’s relative Kinte Mitchell added.

Speaking with NBC Miami, Hubbert’s younger brother Joshua remembered the 45-year-old as a doting father and a mentor to many members of his community.

“They called him brother Gabe,” Joshua said. “Everybody knew him as brother Gabe.”

“If he could help you, he’d help you,” he added. “He was a good person. You would never think of anything like that happening to him. This was somebody that everybody loved.”

In a Facebook post shared by Full of Faith Ministries in Hollywood, Fla., Hubbert’s church community remembered him as a person who relied heavily on his faith and was extremely active as a worship leader.

“Gabe carried a heart of true worship — not just through his voice, but through his life. He led us into God’s presence with sincerity, humility and passion that cannot be replaced,” the church wrote in part. “His faith was real. His spirit was pure. And his impact on our church family will live on in every song we sing and every life he touched.”

The Hubbert family shared that they are heartbroken as the investigation into the shooting continues.

“I learned how to love just by my husband,” his wife, Guerla, told WPLG. “The guy who shot him, I pray for your soul.”
