“My Son Was a Kind Boy”: Father of 17-Year-Old Louis, Beaten to Death in Narbonne, Speaks Out
Narbonne (Aude), Thursday, June 25. Louis was found dying at a construction site in the city. Since then, people have begun paying tribute to him.
“I miss him, it’s terrible.”
Fighting back tears, Nicolas HervΓ© spoke to BFMTV on Monday, June 29, about the death of his son, Louis.
The 17-year-old was beaten to death after being lured into an ambush in Narbonne (Aude). He was found unconscious at a construction site on June 20 before succumbing to his injuries on Tuesday, June 23.
Five young people, including three minors, have been formally charged and placed in pre-trial detention over the fatal assault.
Nicolas HervΓ© says he cannot understand the attack.
“My son was truly a good boy. I don’t understand why there was so much hatred,” he said through tears.
“My son was a kind boy. He played the guitar, and I often took him fishing with me,” he recalled.
“When he was younger, he wanted to become a YouTuber to do silly things. I told him no, but we created a fishing channel instead. He was always making music, and it always helped keep him grounded.”
“I Asked Everyone for Help”
A few months ago, Louis had been placed by his father into the care of France’s Child Welfare Services (ASE).
“Until he was about 16 and a half, I was able to manage his emotions. I could calm him down… Then I had to find another solution. I asked everyone for help. We tried placing him with his godfather, but it didn’t work,” Nicolas HervΓ© explained.
Louis’ aunt previously told Le Parisien:
“It was his parents’ decision so that he could receive support and be surrounded by educators. Louis suffered from ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), in a fairly severe form. He completed all of his schooling in a specialized educational institution (ITEC). He needed to continue in a specialized facility as he prepared for adult life. But his parents were unable to find a suitable center willing to take him.”
Nicolas HervΓ© also insisted that “no one” had informed him that his son was being subjected to violence where he was living.
Louis had reported an assault involving multiple attackers on June 12, one week before his death.
“He went to the police station to seek refuge, but he did not file a complaint. He didn’t want to because he feared retaliation,” Nicolas HervΓ© said.
The Narbonne public prosecutor stated Thursday evening in a press release intended “to correct inaccurate information circulating in certain media outlets and on social media” that:
“The motive for the crime remains unknown at this stage. However, it can already be confirmed that it has absolutely no connection to any racial motive.”
The prosecutor also added:
“Three of the suspects are known to Child Welfare Services (ASE), but none of them were placed in the same facility where Louis was living.”
