The parents of murdered teenager Angus Beaumont have revealed their beloved dog saved their lives during the terrifying house fire that destroyed their family home.
Ben Beaumont and Michelle Liddle narrowly escaped the blaze at their Clontarf home, about 40 minutes north of Brisbane, on Saturday afternoon after Angus’s half-brother Corey Wardle, 36, allegedly set it alight.
Now, Ben has shared emotional new details about the family’s brindle-and-white English bull terrier he says stood between them and death.
“My beautiful dog saved our lives by guarding his pack to get out of the house alive, he deserves a medal,” Beaumont wrote online.
“He put his life at risk to ensure our safe path out by putting himself between us and burning alive at the bottom of the stairs.
“We had to leave him do his job and then he chased us down the street to rejoin us. He is why we are alive today.”
The family’s bull terrier has since been showered with “royal treatment even more than normal,” Beaumont said.

The update came as Beaumont revealed the devastating scale of what was lost in the fire, including all of the equipment tied to the couple’s gardening business, B and M Garden Services.
“We went to the property today to salvage what we could,” Beaumont wrote on Tuesday.
“Unfortunately all of our equipment and three trailers were all damaged beyond repair.”
Despite the destruction, Beaumont said close friends, family and members of the Redcliffe community had rallied around them in extraordinary ways.
“I have about 10 of my close friends and family assisting us, and love them all for being there when we really need them,” he said.

He also praised the owners of Redcliffe Mower Shop for stepping in to help replace equipment and provide essentials, along with the broader peninsula community rallying around the family.
“Would be 100 per cent screwed if it wasn’t for Alex, Jade and Rod,” Beaumont wrote.
“These guys are just the best and my appreciation just can’t be higher for them.
“To the community around us near and far my appreciation also goes out to you ,the assistance has been overwhelming but also very reassuring there are great people out there.”
The fire destroyed the family’s Clontarf home and badly damaged two neighbouring properties, leaving another family homeless and forcing a young couple from their first home.
All residents from the affected homes escaped safely despite the fast-moving blaze.

Police allege Wardle fled the scene before he was arrested nearby by officers and the dog squad.
Beaumont and Liddle, who lost son Angus in a 2020 stabbing tragedy later leading to changes to Queensland’s youth crime laws, earlier revealed they escaped the inferno “while the house was literally burning to the ground”.
The couple also feared treasured memorial items connected to Angus, including the urn containing his ashes, may have been lost in the blaze, before later confirming the urn had been recovered.
Fundraisers launched for all three affected households have drawn an outpouring of community support as donations continue to pour in.
Wardle remains in a mental health ward and is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court via video link on Thursday.
