Emma Thompson and Maggie Smith’s hit family movie Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang has landed on Netflix. Not only that, but the original 2005 Nanny McPhee has also dropped on the streamer.
Released in 2010, the sequel – titled Nanny McPhee Returns in the US – sees the titular nanny help a harried mother whose husband is off at war, and she teaches her three kids and their two spoiled cousins five lessons.
Viewers wanting to watch the movie and its predecessor (which were both written by Thompson) can now do so via Netflix.

The Big Bang was called “terrific” by one fan on IMDb, who added: “I think much of the credit must go to Emma Thompson for the screenplay – how fatally a bad screenplay destroys a film, and how well a good screenplay serves it!”
Another called it a “great film” that is “lovely, well-written, beautifully cast” and “executed with great affection and makes maximum use of its chocolate-box locations”.
“In all, Nanny McPhee Returns is a good family adventure,” a third added. “It’s still able to recreate the magic of the first film. It was brilliant and I recommend this to all families.”
A fourth wrote: “I could not believe that a sequel could ever recapture the magic and sheer exuberance of the first. But it did and then some! After the first ten minutes of the film, I was so engaged in Emma’s story telling and the characters that any fear vanished.”

The movie was also largely a hit with critics, sitting at a 76% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 120 reviews, the site’s consensus saying it “actually improves on the first, delivering charming family fare with an excellent cast”.
Alongside Thompson and Smith, the cast includes The Bride!’s Maggie Gyllenhaal, House of the Dragon’s Rhys Ifans, Sex Education’s Asa Butterfield, Star Wars’ Ewan McGregor and 28 Years Later’s Ralph Fiennes.
Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang and Nanny McPhee are available to stream now on Netflix in the UK.
