A heartbreaking and deeply shocking incident in Cincinnati, Ohio, has reached a somber turning point in court. Briasha Stroud, a 29-year-old mother, stood before the bench this past Tuesday to formally admit to an egregious crime: firing a weapon directly at the head of her own 12-year-old son. During the proceedings before Judge Melba Marsh, the defendant opted to waive her right to a trial, choosing instead to enter a plea of guilty to the charge of attempted murder.
The Horror Unfolds

According to documents provided by the prosecution, this horrific event transpired on January 26, 2025, at a home located in the Deer Park area. Local law enforcement received a distress call via 911 from an individual reporting that a woman had shot her son and appeared to be suffering from a drug overdose.
Upon entering the garage at the scene, responding officers were met with the ghastly sight of both Briasha Stroud and her young son suffering from gunshot wounds. Prosecutors allege that Stroud shot her 12-year-old son in the head before sustaining a gunshot wound herself.
Catastrophic Consequences and an Uncertain Future
While the 12-year-old boy miraculously survived the encounter, the long-term repercussions of the shooting are beyond repair. During the hearing, the prosecutor characterized the victim’s physical and neurological state with haunting clarity, emphasizing that the boy’s life has been irrevocably altered: “he will never have a normal life.”
The prosecutor further underscored the gravity of the situation to Judge Marsh: “His injuries are life-changing. It is our hope that this never gets as far as the presentation of a murder indictment, but at this point, we really don’t know.”
Notably, as part of the plea agreement, the prosecution included a significant legal caveat: should the victim succumb to his injuries in the future, Briasha Stroud could still be charged with murder.
The Defendant’s Fate
Briasha Stroud remains in custody at the Hamilton County Justice Center, awaiting her final judgment. Having waived her right to a trial and entered a guilty plea, the mother now faces the prospect of spending decades behind bars.
The formal sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 23. It will be the day that determines the remaining years of a mother who callously turned a weapon on her own flesh and blood, leaving behind a legacy of trauma for her family and the surrounding community.
