Taylor Sheridan‘s Western masterpiece is getting taken out to pasture by Netflix.

Hell or High Water is set to leave Netflix in just one week from now, on Thursday, April 30. The movie was written by Sheridan and directed by David Mackenzie (Under the Banner of Heaven). Hell or High Water‘s departure from Netflix is surprising, as the movie has not been available on the streaming service for that long. The film arrived on Netflix this year, on February 1. As such, Hell or High Water is already leaving the streamer after Netflix subscribers only got to enjoy it for three months.
At the time of writing, Hell or High Water is not one of the films on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies Chart in the United States. Instead, that list includes Netflix Original movies like Roommates, which leads the chart, Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill, 180, Thrash, and KPop Demon Hunters, which is Netflix’s most-watched movie to date. Other entries on the list include the recent arrival Him and the animated hit Minions: The Rise of Gru.

In ScreenRant’s Hell or High Water review, critic Sandy Schaefer gave the Western an 8 out of 10 score. According to the writer, “Hell or High Water makes for a contemplative dramatic thriller that is fueled by great performances and strong direction.” In the review, Schaefer compared the 2016 movie to the first film Sheridan wrote, 2015’s Sicario. Both films are part of Sheridan’s American Frontier movie trilogy, which also includes 2017’s Wind River, which the Yellowstone franchise creator directed and considers to be his true directorial debut.
The film stars Chris Pine as Toby Howard and Ben Foster as Tanner Howard, two brothers who rob banks to save their family ranch by paying off the debt that could lead to it being foreclosed. As the brothers set off on their series of heists, they are tracked by Jeff Bridges’ Marcus Hamilton and Gil Birmingham’s Alberto Parker, a pair of dedicated Texas Rangers. Hell or High Water‘s cast also includes names like Amber Midthunder (Prey), Marin Ireland (His & Hers), Katy Mixon (Minions), and even Sheridan himself.
Hell or High Water was successful at the box office, though not a major hit with its $37.9 million total. On Rotten Tomatoes, the Western movie stands at a near-perfect 97% critics’ score, also boasting a stellar 89% audience score. Hell or High Water won and was nominated for several awards, including four Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Jeff Bridges), Best Film Editing, and Best Original Screenplay for Sheridan. Before it leaves Netflix, Hell or High Water is a must-watch.
