A period drama inspired by an incomplete novel from one of Britain’s most celebrated authors has been praised as ‘perfect’, and is now streaming on ITVX.

Sanditon is a British period drama adapted from Jane Austen’s unfinished 1817 novel of the same title.

The story centres on Charlotte Heywood, a spirited young woman who leaves her tranquil rural home for a burgeoning seaside resort, where she encounters romance and intrigue.

The series boasts an impressive cast featuring Rose Williams, Crystal Clarke, Charlotte Spencer and Kris Marshall, alongside Sidney James in the opening series, with Ben Lloyd-Hughes appearing in the subsequent two series.

The programme debuted on ITV in 2019 across eight episodes, with a second series arriving in 2022 and a concluding third series broadcast in 2023. The final series has particularly resonated with audiences, delivering a touching conclusion to protagonist Charlotte Heywood’s romantic journey.
