I Swear, the “unmissable” British drama with a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has just landed on Netflix. Based on a true story, the film stars Robert Aramayo as John Davidson, a Tourette’s syndrome campaigner who grew up with the condition in 1980s Scotland.

Written and directed by Kirk Jones, the cast is rounded out by Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson, and Peter Mullan.
The logline reads: “Based on Scottish activist John Davidson’s life, a man with Tourette syndrome finds resolve in his allies and uses his unfiltered voice to fight stigma.”

Following its release in UK cinemas in October, I Swear is now available to stream on Netflix, having been added to the streaming service today.
A box-office and critical hit, the film has a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 38 reviews, with Deadline describing it as “an unmissable delight”.
“Davidson’s essential likability shines through, thanks in part to Aramayo’s endearing, guileless performance and in part to writer-director Kirk Jones’ machine-tooled script,” penned The Hollywood Reporter.
Empire Magazine said of the film: “Just lovely. Tourette syndrome has not been afforded its cinematic dues, but what an affable, funny character to explore it with in John Davidson — and what a performance from Robert Aramayo.”
“Empathetic, funny and myth-busting, it gives you permission to laugh at the situation while feeling only compassion for the man,” wrote Time Out.

The Times said: “All flaws are overcome by Aramayo’s technically precise and heart-rending turn. It’s astonishing.”
Aramayo took home the award for Leading Actor at this year’s EE BAFTA Film Awards, winning over Hollywood heavyweights Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Michael B. Jordan, and Jesse Plemons.
Following the event, BAFTA issued an apology after Tourette’s campaigner Davidson’s involuntary shouting was heard during the ceremony, including a racial slur while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting an award.
I Swear is now streaming on Netflix.
