A teenager has been left in a potentially life threatening condition after a shocking two-car crash on the Gold Coast.

The 17-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla when it collided with a Mazda on Robina Parkway near the intersection of Scottsdale Dr in Robina about 8pm on Wednesday.

The force of the crash caused the Corolla to veer off the road and into a tree, crumpling the vehcile and trapping the boy.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with fire and rescue crews cutting the teenager free from the wreckage after about 20 minutes.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition, according to paramedics, and sustained significant injuries to his leg.

The 29-year-old woman driving the Mazda did not suffer any injuries in the collision.

Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have vision of the crash is asked to come forward.
