Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering issuing a public apology to King Charles for their role in the family feud over the past six years. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who quit royal life in 2020, have publicly criticised the Firm on many occasions, whether that be in interviews, in their Netflix docuseries, and in Harry’s memoir.
It is now believed that the couple may issue a statement apologising to the King for any problems they have caused. They reportedly want to do this, but make it clear they don’t take back what was said, just the impact it had. It is believed that the motivation for releasing such a statement is to aid the reconciliation between them and Harry’s father, sending the monarch “a clear signal” that they want to end the hostile family tensions.
An insider told RadarOnline: “There is no illusion on either side that Harry and Meghan can release a carefully worded statement and suddenly repair everything that has happened between them, Charles and the Royal Family over the past five years. Too many deeply personal things have been said publicly, relationships have been fractured, and a huge amount of trust has disappeared. Rebuilding that is going to require much more than a single apology, and it certainly won’t happen overnight.
“But publicly recognising the pain this dispute has caused would be an important gesture because it would show that Harry and Meghan understand the consequences of how far the feud has gone. It could also send Charles a clear signal that they are serious about ending this cycle of hostility and beginning a different kind of relationship with the family.”
