Taylor Sheridan’s Landman Season 2 Episode 5 takes a dig at ABC’s The View. In a seemingly lighthearted conversation between a father and son, Tommy, the lead character, unexpectedly offers a sharp critique of the reality talk show.
What did Tommy Norris say about The View on Landman Season 2 Episode 5?
Landman Season 2 Episode 5, “The Pirate Dinner,” made a rare real-life reference, talking about ABC’s The View (via Variety). This exchange occurs when T.L. (Sam Elliott) calls Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) when he is locked out of the house. He first asks Tommy what he’s doing, and says that he doesn’t know how to pass the time, and needs suggestions.
Tommy replies, “Well, s**t, do whatever you want to. Read a book, watch TV. Watch one of them daytime talk shows. You know, like The View or something.” T.L. then asks, “What’s The View?”
Tommy describes the show, saying, “Bunch of pissed off millionaires b****ing about how much they hate millionaires and Trump and you and me and everybody else they got a bee up their a** about. It’s pretty funny.”
“Don’t sound funny,” T.L. responds, seemingly unimpressed. Tommy replies, “Well, it ain’t joke funny. It’s like ‘fart in church’ funny, you know what I mean?” T.L. quips, “Doesn’t sound funny either.” Tommy adds, “Well, it depends on your proximity of your fart.” Their conversation ends with Tommy leading his father to a spare key to their house.
Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Landman is a neo-Western drama series that takes place in West Texas. It is inspired by Wallace’s own podcast, Boomtown, which talks about the activities surrounding oil companies, predominantly in Texas.
It features Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, and Mark Collie, among others. Veteran actor Sam Elliott is the latest addition to the season as T.L., Tommy’s father.
