A “rare” six-part thriller just released on Netflix is said to be a “must binge” for fans that they can watch in one go this weekend.

Unfamiliar was only recently added to the streamer’s extensive library to very little fanfare just a few days ago.

Despite this, it has caught viewers’ attention and entered the top 10 chart.

At the time of writing it is the ninth most watched series among UK users. Fans and critics alike are claiming that it the series viewers should check out this weekend and is easily bingeable.

According to its synopsis, the German produced series follows ex-spies Simon and Meret who operate a safe house hidden in the heart of Berlin.

When a threat they thought was buried reappears, they find themselves hiding from assassins, Russian agents, the BND, ex-lovers and a whole bunch of people they have wronged – all while trying to keep their marriage together.

While the title has not received enough published reviews to gain a score on website Rotten Tomatoes, plenty of critics and fans alike have shared their recommendations. More than one have indicated that it is the must binge series for this weekend.

One reviewer penned: “Similar to previous Netflix streaming hits like The Night Agent, The Recruit, and Black Doves, Unfamiliar is a spy thriller with classic themes of cat-and-mouse espionage. It has all the right ingredients to be a satisfying binge on Netflix this weekend for fans of spy thrillers, crime dramas, and action-packed series

“It’s a polished, visually stunning series that will keep you hooked from the moment you press play. If you’re searching for a truly unmissable brand new Netflix series to binge in just a sitting or two this weekend, there is no better choice than to dive into Unfamiliar.”

Another claimed: “Unfamiliar is the rare thriller that lays out just enough story in its first episode to engage viewers, while leaving them in the dark about things without making them feel like they’re being manipulated.”

Meanwhile one fan who has watched it already admitted: “I couldn’t stop. I watched all the episodes straight through until 2:30 am. So much better than the usual Hollywood-glam-makeup-productions.”

Another said: “This one completely grabbed me. The action scenes are really intense. There’s a car chase where the main character is literally fighting off killers while arguing with her husband on the phone. Sounds weird but it works perfectly.”

They continued: “The lead actress Susanne Wolff is incredible, and honestly the actors are great. They feel real, not like typical spy movie characters. What I liked most is that it’s actually smart. It’s not just explosions and gunfights. There’s real tension between the characters and actual mystery about who to trust. The whole thing about family secrets and lies just keeps building the whole time. “It’s only 6 episodes so it doesn’t drag. If you like spy movies and want something that’s actually good quality, definitely watch this. Even for someone like me who rarely reviews stuff, this one’s worth your time.”

Unfamiliar is streaming on Netflix.
