Ryan Coogler On Michael B. Jordan, 'Sinners' & 'Black Panther 3': Full Interview

Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” just set a new Oscars record, receiving a whooping 16 nominations.

Three films — “All About Eve” (1950), “Titanic” (1997) and “La La Land” (2016) — previously tied the record for the most Academy Award nominations, each with 14.

“Sinners” crushed that stat when nominations for the 2026 Academy Awards, which will be held March 15, were announced Jan. 22. The film is up for best picture, original screenplay, casting, costume design, several acting awards and more.

The vampire epic stars Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, portraying twins in a thrilling, Southern Gothic tale. The movie also features Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, Jack O’Connell, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, Li Jun Li and breakout star Miles Caton.

“Sinners” follows Smoke and Stack, both feared and beloved in their community, as they return home to open a juke joint in the Mississippi Delta. They gather everyone and everything they need for the grand opening, but when the sun goes down, supernatural forces disrupt the night.

The film has been a hot topic of conversation on social media since its release, as fans dissect the plot, share theories and applaud Coogler’s filmmaking. The ending involves an intense showdown and two post-credits scenes.
