Director Antoine Fuqua described 29-year-old Jaafar’s performance as remarkable.

He said: “It goes beyond the physical resemblance. It’s Michael’s spirit that comes through in a magical way.

“You have to experience it to believe it.”

The film, out on April 24, includes recreations of the Thriller video and the moment Jacko was taken to hospital after being burned while filming a Pepsi advert.

The movie was originally due to be released in April 2025 but was pushed back to this year.

A source said: “It was Michael’s dream to do that residency at the O2 and now his family are hoping that will partly be fulfilled with the film premiering at the venue.”

The biopic, which will look at his life from his childhood years in The Jackson 5 to his death, is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Fuqua and also stars Colman Domingo and Miles Teller.

The late star’s estate signed off on the film, but his daughter Paris distanced herself from the project.

She said: “The narrative is being controlled and there’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies.

“At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. Go enjoy it.

“Do whatever. Leave me out of it.”
