Netflix has released the trailer for “Diddy: The Reckoning,” a four-part documentary series from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Emmy-winning director Alexandria Stapleton that examines the rise and fall of Sean Combs.
The series’ official synopsis calls it “a staggering examination of the media mogul, music legend and convicted offender.”
Combs was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution earlier this year, but dodged the three most serious charges he was on trial for: Two counts of sex trafficking and one count of racketeering.
The new trailer begins with footage of Diddy six days before his arrest in Sept. 2024 as he tells someone over the phone: “We need to find someone who will work with us who has worked in the dirtiest of dirty businesses.
We are losing.”
A presumably younger Diddy is heard later in the trailer saying: “Everything in life you are going to have people that are bad and people that are good.
You have to choose your side.”
“Being a woman in the industry, and going through the #MeToo movement โ watching giants in music and film go on trial, and to know what their outcomes were … When Cassie dropped her lawsuit, I just thought this could go a million different directions,” director Alexandria Stapleton told Tudum.
“I wondered how she had the confidence to go out there against a mogul like Sean Combs.
As a filmmaker, I instantly knew it was a stress test of whether we’ve changed as a culture, as far as being able to process allegations like this in a fair way.”
“This isn’t just about the story of Sean Combs or the story of Cassie, or the story of any of the victims, or the allegations against him, or the trial,” she added.
“Ultimately, this story is a mirror [reflecting us] as the public, and what we are saying when we put our celebrities on such a high pedestal.
I hope [this documentary] is a wake-up call for how we idolize people, and to understand that everybody is a human being.”
Per Netflix: “The documentary series features intimate footage, shot with Combs’ knowledge, in the six days leading up to his arrest and indictment.
At the time, Combs was under federal investigation.”
The series will also include interviews with various subjects including Danity Kane member Aubrey O’Day and jurors who took part in Combs’ trial earlier this year.
“Sean Combs: The Reckoning” premieres Dec. 2 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
