Jenna Bush Hager has shared a surprising family update — her husband, Henry Hager, has officially barred their eldest daughter, Mila, from appearing on the Today show.

Speaking to E! News on Monday, Bush Hager admitted that 11-year-old Mila has been eager to join her on-air during the show’s fourth hour. But while mom might love the idea, dad isn’t convinced it’s a great plan.
“She said something very controversial,” Jenna explained with a laugh. “So my husband gave her what he’s calling a lifetime ban. Maybe we’ll lift it for Bring Your Kids to Work Day — but for now, she’s grounded from TV.”

The Read with Jenna founder added that Mila’s enthusiasm stands out among the family. “She’s the only one really begging to come on,” Jenna joked. “The others aren’t jumping at the idea — but I might nudge them, the way I’ve done my whole life.”
Searching for Her Next Co-Host
Bush Hager, 43, has recently been sharing the anchor desk with a rotating list of guest co-hosts — from Eva Longoria to Scarlett Johansson — as part of Today with Jenna & Friends. The goal? To find a permanent replacement for Hoda Kotb, with whom she previously co-hosted Today with Hoda & Jenna.
The “Controversial” Moment That Started It All
Although Jenna didn’t specify which “controversial” comment got her daughter banned, fans of the show might remember Mila’s viral moment from 2022. During a live appearance, Mila blurted out an unexpectedly personal detail about her mom — revealing that Jenna doesn’t wear underwear.
“She never wears underwear,” Mila declared proudly on-air. “She’s not wearing it right now! I saw her change!”
The former first daughter immediately buried her face in her hands, laughing in embarrassment as she quickly ushered her daughter off camera.
Jenna’s Reaction — and Defense
Later, Jenna playfully addressed her daughter’s revelation, standing by her choice with characteristic humor.
“There are a lot of pros to it!” she said on Today in November 2022. “I’m sure my mom has never been prouder.”
A Close-Knit Family with Plenty of Laughs

Jenna and Henry Hager, who tied the knot in 2008, share three children — Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5. Despite Mila’s temporary “TV ban,” the family remains tight-knit and often at the center of Jenna’s funniest stories on air.
While Henry might be enforcing a little parental discipline for now, Jenna seems open to negotiating a comeback for her daughter — someday.
“We’ll see if her ban gets lifted,” Jenna teased. “She’s got a big personality — and maybe just a little too much of mine.”
