A “gripping” drama hailed as “a great watch” is available to stream for free – but fans are left hungry for more. Psychological thriller The Teacher centres on a different educator each series whose life spirals into turmoil as a result of scandals, classroom politics, or devastating events. The show rapidly established itself as a firm favourite amongst viewers, thanks to its stellar cast and compelling storylines.

The debut series first broadcast in 2022 and centred on Jenna Garvey, portrayed by Sheridan Smith, an emotionally troubled English teacher accused of engaging in a drunken sexual encounter with a pupil. Owing to memory loss, she is unable to recall the evening in question. Series two, which originally broadcast in 2024, charts the story of Dani, portrayed by EastEnders actress Kara Tointon, an art teacher whose clandestine affair with a work colleague ends in heartbreak when a pupil disappears during a school excursion, reports The Mirror.

More than a year later, the programme made its eagerly-awaited comeback for a third series, with The Crown’s Victoria Hamilton stepping into the leading role.

It follows Victoria as Helen Simpson, a teacher boasting more than three decades of experience in the classroom.

She is depicted as someone who “dismisses the woke ideologies of the younger generation” and finds herself at loggerheads with one of her pupils, Cressida Bancroft, portrayed by Alice Grant.

“Influential female student Cressida Bancroft dislikes Helen for accusing her of being a woke warrior to gain popularity,” the official synopsis reads. “After this clash of ideals, Cressida sets out to turn the world against Helen, before focussing her attention on Helen’s family.

“Including her son Sam. As Helen delves deeper into Cressida’s past, she uncovers a world of sadness and neglect.”
