Netflix recently resurrected the 1987 classic Overboard, which stars Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, and fans have been falling in love with the incredible romcom
oldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are one of Hollywood’s biggest couples, and the actors have appeared together in numerous projects, including romcom Overboard, which was released in 1987.
The film, which also served as the debut of the couple’s son Wyatt, follows a wealthy socialite who develops amnesia after falling from a yacht before catching the eye of a working-class carpenter whom she had mistreated.
The official synopsis for the film reads: “Snobbish and wealthy Joanna Stayton is living a life of leisure with her husband, Grant, when she falls off their yacht and suffers amnesia.
“Grant takes the opportunity to rid himself of the demanding Joanna, but Dean, a widowed carpenter with four kids who once worked for Joanna, arrives and claims she’s his wife. Joanna can’t remember her past identity, but has trouble believing that she was ever meant to be a working-class mother of four.”
The film recently arrived on Netflix, and it has shot up the streaming platform’s charts in the UK, peaking at the No. 6 spot, before tumbling down to No. 8, where it currently sits. With its acting pedigree, the film has also succeeded in the US charts, climbing all the way to the second spot.
Who stars in Overboard?
The film’s romantic leads are played by real-life couple Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. Although the couple had never married, the pair had been in a relationship for four years by the time Overboard was released. Their baby son, Wyatt, made a cameo appearance as a baby on a golf course in the movie.

Fans have been loving the film following its re-release
A second added: “Overboard is another jewel from the 80’s, maybe the best decade for comedies and romantic comedies,” while a third said: “Definitely a great 80’s film and possibly one of the best romcoms of all time.“
A fourth commented: “Movie snobs, insisting on original plots (as if there really are any) might not love this flick. But anyone who can appreciate proven talent in a good-natured comedy will find these 2 hours’ time well spent. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes to smile.”
