A ‘disturbing yet delightful’ new drama with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes has delighted viewers on Netflix with its twists and turns.
The Irish series, which stars Bodkin actress Siobhán Cullen as lead character Elvira Clancy, had a second series debut this October, two years after it was first launched.
Filmed in County Donegal, the story of Obituary revolves around a small Irish community where a young woman becomes the local paper’s obituary writer.
Elvira, who is obsessed with mortality, becomes so eager to keep writing about more deaths that she beings killing local people for more opportunities.
But it’s not long before someone starts cottoning on what she’s been up to – a young crime writer who also joins the paper Elvira works for.
The synopsis teases: ’24-year-old Elvira Clancy adores her job writing obituaries but is feeling unfulfilled.

After its release, the series received high praise from critics – with TIME magazine writing: ‘Imagine Dexter meets Bad Sisters, with a chilling yet somehow quite likeable lead performance from Cullen, and you won’t be far off.’
While entertainment platform Pajiba added: ‘Obituary is one delightful, properly Gothic (ahem) and somewhat disturbing first season of TV, as in, I really hope we have more seasons of this gem.’
At-home critics agree, having given it a perfect 100% score on reviews site Rotten Tomatoes, praising it as ‘captivating’ and ‘binge-worthy’.
One penned: ‘I found this show to be captivating. With a small tidbit of humour, the storyline kept me coming back and thriving to binge till the end.’

‘Siobhán Cullen is awesome as the lead. Dark and clever with a few interesting backstories which keep you watching,’ another added.

The second series, which only recently came out, sees Elvira grappling with her father’s demise by returning to her murderous ways.
Things take a strange turn when another serial killer turns up in town.
It comes after a period drama dubbed ‘the BBC‘s best kept secret’ has left fans raving after it was uploaded to Prime Video.
Viewers have been left asking why they had ‘not heard of the’ gripping series, which first aired in 2009 and stars the likes of Andrew Buchan and Lyndsey Marshall.
Garrow’s Law is inspired by the life of barrister William Garrow and investigates real crimes from treason to rape, using published accounts from historic Old Bailey trials.
The real-life 18th century British barrister was part of the establishment of the ‘innocent until proven guilty’ concept and pioneered cross-examination in court.
Broadchurch star Andrew, 49, told the BBC at the time of the series’ release: ‘People were being sent to prison, even hanged, on no evidence.
‘Garrow stepped in and started rattling a few cages by posing insightful questions. He’s very aggressive; the whole thing is based on attack.’
