hat would you do if a stranger started to become infatuated with you? What if they were also concealing a secret of yours? That’s the premise of psychological thriller, A Patch of Fog – and who plays the perpetrator? Only Stephen Graham. The Adolescence star is faultless as mentally unstable loner Robert Green, and with the film now available to watch on Disney+, we’d highly recommend checking out his performance tonight.

Stephen’s victim (of sorts) is Sandy (played by Conleth Hill), a once celebrated novelist who is now a university lecturer and TV personality. On the side, Sandy has a penchant for shoplifting and when he’s caught in the act by security guarded Robert, it seems things are about to come crashing down. But instead, Robert does a deal with him: he won’t tell the police, as long as Sandy goes for a drink with him.
Intrigued? Here’s everything you need to know about A Patch of Fog before you tune in, including the full plot details, the cast and how to watch it.

The British film, which was first released in 2015, stars Conleth Hill as Sandy, a celebrated novelist turned university lecturer and TV personality. He’s also enjoying a romance with his fellow TV host Lucy (Laura Pulver). Life is good, it seems, but that won’t last long. In his “spare” time, Sandy indulges in one of his greatest thrills – and he’s about to get caught in the act.
Stephen Graham is security guard Robert, the man who catches Sandy red-handed. Robert is a lonely soul and decidedly unstable. So how does he respond? He tells Sandy he won’t call the police, providing he goes for a drink with him. And so begins the start of Robert’s disturbing infatuation with Sandy.

Is Sandy concerned by Robert’s behaviour? At first, no – he doesn’t see the harm in it if it stops him from being “outed”. It soon becomes clear, however that Robert isn’t quite as stupid as Sandy has assumed he is, nor is his “attachment” to Sandy innocent.
Robert Jones
Stephen Graham spoke to Seensome about the film, sharing what attracted him to the role of Robert. “I just read the script and I found it very compelling and really interesting. Just that loneliness and that isolation that we all go through as human beings”, he said.
“For me, it was that intriguing element of a man who’s very alone and lost and can’t really find another human being to have an interaction with. The obsessive way that unfolds, I just found it really interesting, a really interesting character to play.“
He added: “It’s kind of a love affair in a way, like when you’re a teenager and you fall in love with a girl, when you’re infatuated with someone and you get dumped, remember that feeling? At the school disco when you find out she’s kissed someone else? Your whole little world collapses and it’s like why? What’s wrong with me? And sometimes you go on the defensive then. So yeah, it’s an infatuation that he has with Sandy.”

Is A Patch of Fog any good?
Yes – it’s better than good. Stephen Graham is nothing short of exceptional as pathological loner, Robert, and both he and Conleth Hill portray flawed characters to perfection. If you enjoy a series that’s dark, suspenseful but also deeply thought-provoking, you’ll like A Patch of Fog.
How can I watch A Patch of Fog?
Good news – A Patch of Fog is available to watch now on Disney+.
What other Stephen Graham dramas can I watch now?
BBC/World Productions
If you enjoy a period drama (or a spy series for that matter), we’d highly recommend Stephen’s series The Secret Agent. The drama is an adaptation of the classic Joseph Conrad thriller and is set in London, 1886, where Verloc (Toby Jones) runs a seedy shop in the heart of London’s Soho while also acting secretly acting as an agent of the Russian Embassy. And he won’t be able to hide his latter job from Chief Inspector Heat (Stephen Graham) of Scotland Yard’s Special Crimes Division for long. You can watch The Secret Agent on ITVX. For something a little darker, try Bodies, which follows four detectives living in different eras investigating the appearance of the same body in a street in London’s East End. You can watch Bodies on Netflix. For more great Stephen Graham dramas, check out our pick of the very best here.
