Douglas Henshall, best known for his gripping roles in Shetland and Murder is Easy, is back — and this time, he’s diving into an even darker, more chilling crime thriller. The Scottish star has just signed on to The Darkness, a six-part detective drama that promises to send shivers down the spine of crime drama fans everywhere.

Joining Douglas is Golden Globe nominee Lena Olin and Jack Bannon, known for his work in Pennyworth and Endeavour. Together, under the direction of acclaimed filmmaker Lasse Hallström — whose resume boasts classics like Chocolat and The Cider House Rules — this series is poised to be a haunting new entry into the genre.

With the eerie backdrop of Reykjavík, the story promises an unsettling atmosphere and a psychological depth that will grip viewers from start to finish.

Filming has already started, but the release date remains a secret, adding to the suspense. Since leaving Shetland in 2022, Douglas has been busy with high-profile projects, including the Netflix hit Who Is Erin Carter? and the recent Agatha Christie adaptation Murder is Easy.
