SUBTLE SIGNS

The secret messages Melania Trump & Queen Camilla have sent with Washington outfits including that VERY telling brooch

WHEN it comes to royal dressing, there is always more than meets the eye.

While President Trump and King Charles have largely harnessed the spotlight during the state visit, it’s Melania Trump and Queen Camilla who have said the most with their deliberate outfit messages.

“Months of emails and coordination” between the women’s teams have given a “quiet masterclass in fashion-as-diplomacy”, claims fashion commentator Amber Graafland.

She told The Sun that the subtle signs in their ensembles “speak volumes before either woman said a word”, and are “anything but accidental.”

First up was the very pointed colour chosen for the ceremonial welcome to Washington.

While white is associated with weddings, it has become the ultimate royal status flex, so was a fitting colour for both women to channel.

Amber stated: “This was no off-the-cuff styling moment. Long associated with peace, clarity and new beginnings, it’s also a colour steeped in diplomatic nuance.

“White is neutral by nature, non-combative, non-partisan and deliberately restrained. It doesn’t push or provoke.

“Instead, it conveys authority without aggression and confidence without confrontation.”

‘PINK AS A BRIDGE’

The King and Queen were the guests of honour at a White House state dinner on day two of the four-day tour – with a deliberate pink being chosen for both women.

While Camilla championed British designer Fiona Clare with her gown, First Lady Melania stunned in a Dior number with opera gloves.

Amber commented on the strategic colour choice: “Where white created alignment, pink brought warmth.

“It’s less formal than white, but far from frivolous.

“In fashion terms, pink acted as a bridge, and told a complete story: first stability, then warmth; first unity, then ease.”

‘ENDURING SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP’

While the colour of Camilla’s outfits have stood out, her jewels have revealed a more subtle tale.

She championed royal heritage by accessorising with amethyst and diamond jewels that once belonged to Queen Victoria and Queen Mary.

Meanwhile, part of her necklace was worn as a brooch by Queen Elizabeth II when she visited Washington in 1991.

Amber stated: “A small detail, perhaps, but a beautifully judged one.

“Another quiet, elegant nod to history, continuity and the enduring special relationship between the UK and the US.”

‘ICING ON THE CAKE’

When the King and Queen touched down in the United States, Camilla set the tone from the get-go with her very diplomatic Cartier brooch.

The striking Union Jack and Stars and Stripes piece was originally a gift to Queen Elizabeth II from New York City Mayor Robert F. Wagner on her 1957 visit.

Made from platinum and set with rubies, sapphires and diamonds, it is the ultimate symbol of unity with the crossed UK and US flags.

The fashion expert hailed it as the “icing on the cake” for Camilla’s diplomatic dressing.
