A man is fighting for life after allegedly being bashed and stabbed on a busy Melbourne street.

He managed to flag down a police patrol car on Malvern Road about 12.20am while bleeding with serious head injuries and stab wounds.
Officers traced the large trail of blood left behind.
It led them to a block of flats where the man was allegedly beaten and stabbed.

Detectives and forensics officers returned to the scene throughout the day to collect more evidence and security camera footage.
The victim was taken with life-threatening injuries to The Alfred Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
A 38-year-old South Yarra woman was arrested on Sunday and charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and failing to comply with a direction to assist.
Police say the pair knew each other.
The woman was remanded in custody to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
