A thriller branded ‘captivating and fast-paced’ has landed on Netflix – and it’s perfect for fans to binge-watch during the weekend.

The Cleaning Lady debuted in 2022 and stars Elodie Yung as Thony De La Rosa, a Cambodian Filipino surgeon working at a top hospital in Manila.

Upon relocating to the United States – specifically Las Vegas – Thony is confronted with new challenges.

Her visa expires, becoming an undocumented immigrant – while five-year-old son Luca battles a rare autoimmune illness needing cutting-edge bone marrow treatment.

She therefore takes up a cleaning job to bring money in, but things take a sharp turn when Thony witnesses a murder.

Not only this, Thony is also discovered by gangster Arman Morales (Adan Canto), who committed the murder.

Morales subsequently offers her a job as both doctor and cleaner in his criminal network – the financial incentive being enough to help Luca and provide security.

Thony starts living a double life – cleaning up crime scenes and while evading the justice of the law.

All four series of The Cleaning Lady are available to watch on Netflix.

Writing online, one viewer penned: ‘It’s been a long time since any series has captivated me so much and offered me such a mix of suspense, drama and emotional depth.’

Another said: ‘A very different idea which is refreshing to watch. Plenty of action happening all through.

‘The time went by fast and at the end of each episode I couldn’t wait to watch the next.’

While a third agreed: ‘The Cleaning Lady is one of those shows that quietly hooks you and doesn’t let go.

‘What starts as a crime drama becomes a tense, emotional survival story, and it works because it feels grounded and real.’

In January 2024, actor Adan Canto, who portrayed Arman Morales, passed away aged 42 following a battle with appendiceal cancer.

He portrayed Morales for the show’s first two series – with the character written out in the third and fourth.

‘Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever,’ Canto’s reps said in statement at the time. ‘He will be greatly missed by so many.’

Hollywood actress Halle Berry was among those who paid tribute to the actor following his death.

‘My dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings,’ she captioned a picture of Canto on Instagram. ‘Forever, forever in my heart.’

The pair worked on the 2020 sports drama, Bruised, which she starred in and directed. In the film, he played her character’s manager, Desi.

Elsewhere, crime drama fans were overjoyed as ‘one of the best shows ever’ returned to ITV with a ‘powerful, edge-of-your-seat’ premiere.

Grace, based on Peter James’ Roy Grace books, hit our screens on the channel back in 2021.

‘The tenacious detective returns as a chilling new crime wave grips Brighton – but will his personal demons hamper his pursuit of justice?,’ ITV’s synopsis reads.

The programme, which is set in Brighton and Hove, stars John Simm as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace and Richie Campbell as Detective Sergeant Glenn Branson.

They have been joined by the likes of Rakie Ayola, Sam Hoare, Craig Parkinson, Laura Elphinstone, Brad Morrison, Amaka Okafor, Juliette Motamed, Zoe Rapper, Clare Calbraith, Adrian Rawlins and Steven Hartley over the years.

Many rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share how much they enjoyed it.

‘New season of Grace starts tonight, one of the best shows on TV and the first episode on ITVX now!! 9/10.’

‘It was very good, well acted and an interesting storyline. The backdrop of the sunny South Coast also makes it a little more rewarding to watch as well. #ITV does a good drama. They just need to give channel 5 some lessons.’

Although some disagreed, penning ‘Is it me? Can’t say I have watched many episodes before but the acting was like the local amateur drama group.’

‘Is it just me or is the new series of #Grace on very badly directed? No flow to the scenes, each scene looks ‘staged’ & wooden. Like an acting school.’
