New Twist Expected: Sheriff Announces Major Update in 4-Year-Old Javeayah Harris Hom-icide Investigation
SHERIFF TO GIVE MAJOR UPDATE IN JAVEAYAH HARRIS CASE THURSDAY
Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer will hold a press conference at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning to provide the latest update in the heartbreaking Javeayah Harris homicide investigation.
Chief Deputy Eric Abdullah said investigators appreciate the public’s support and the extensive media coverage but stressed that protecting the integrity of the investigation has limited what information can be released. The sheriff is expected to provide the latest update during Thursday’s briefing and will take a limited number of questions from the media afterward.
The case has gripped the CSRA since 4-year-old Javeayah Harris was reported missing on June 30, prompting a massive search involving local, state and federal agencies. Days later, investigators announced they believe the little girl had actually died about a month before the 911 call reporting her missing.
Her parents, Johmarea Harris and Michilae Herring, have since been charged with homicide by child abuse, and Herring also faces a charge of filing a false police report. Authorities continue searching for Javeayah’s remains as the investigation moves forward.
