The Farmer Wants A Wife reunion brought its fair share of wholesome moments and awkward confrontations, and both felt like they were a long time coming. On Sunday, the five farmers sat down with host Natalie Gruzlewski and shared what their lives with their chosen ladies have actually been like when the cameras stopped rolling.
While Zac and Maya, Dylan and Ally, Jason and Poppy, and Jarrad and Brodie all delivered happy reports, Alex and Eddy — who were the first to leave the show — told a different story.
While we already knew that Alex and Eddy weren’t still together, with Eddy herself confirming to WHO that she had moved on with her new beau in January this year, what we didn’t know was what went down between the once loved-up couple.
It turns out Alex was looking for some answers too, and brought an energy to the reunion that Eddy wasn’t expecting.
Alex’s confrontational questioning left Eddy feeling “shocked” and “attacked”, so much so that the lawyer told WHO that “the producers and the host Nat…stood up for [her] and intervened during certain points”.
However, Alex thought Eddy would’ve expected him to have some questions for her.
“I don’t know if she was expecting me to talk the way I did, and that might have thrown her a little bit,” the mushroom farmer admitted to WHO. “I went in with some questions.
“She’s a smart girl. I had to believe that she would have expected me to have something to say because she’s already commented on how she thinks I’m an intense person. So, she would have assumed that I would have had things to say.”
Fans divided over Alex’s approach at the reunion
However, it wasn’t just Eddy who was shocked by Alex’s approach, as the reunion left fans divided over whether the farmer should have questioned Eddy the way that he did.
“His behaviour wasn’t great,” one fan wrote online. “It was a highly emotive situation though, as he clearly had a lot more invested than she did. He needs to realise that ‘no’ is a complete sentence. She doesn’t have to provide any more than that.”
“I feel like Alex is way too controlling,” another fan agreed. “The way he questioned Eddy felt way too intense to me.”
While fans felt Alex came off “angry” in the interview, others had no problem with his approach, believing he had “every right to ask, as would anyone, when you get dumped with no reason and have an opportunity” to ask why.
“I think he just wanted answers that he didn’t really get from her, so I can understand if he got frustrated,” one viewer commented online.
“He fell in love with her… I understand that he is hurt.”
‘I didn’t mean to hurt her’
When asked whether he got the response he needed from Eddy, Alex confessed that he had “so many questions” and “not many answers”.
“She gave the answers that she felt were appropriate,” he said. “I think she may have avoided a few of the questions — I can’t speak to why she did that — and I wasn’t fully satisfied that she explained herself completely.
“But by the same token, she’s not obliged to. We were being filmed and having a pretty deep conversation, and she wasn’t expecting that.”
Alex added: “She always said to me that I was more comfortable talking about my emotional states than she was, and so in some ways maybe it wasn’t fair for me to do what I did to her like that.
“I did what I did. I made the call I did at the time, and I hope it comes across as me being respectful. I didn’t mean to hurt her. I wasn’t out to hurt her. I just wanted to know why she did what she did.”

While Alex would’ve loved more answers from Eddy, he revealed that what audiences saw take place at the reunion was where the pair left things — with neither of them saying a word to each other since the cameras stopped rolling.
Would he have liked Eddy to have “said more”? Yes. However, eight months later, the farmer has well and truly made his peace with it and said he has “moved on in a lot of ways”.
