In an exclusive interview, Lily laid out what she sees as the fundamental mismatch that doomed the relationship from the start. “Ally wants kids straight away, and I know for a fact that Dylan doesn’t, and he wants to prioritise his career,” she said. “I’m surprised that they even saw eye to eye on that.”
Lily pointed to Dylan’s priorities as the real sticking point. “He wants to prioritise rodeo and stuff. And how does she really fit into that? That would be my question. I don’t know the intricacies [of their relationship] but I’m just guessing as an outsider.”
The critique went further. Lily suggested Ally struggled to offer anything that aligned with farm life or Dylan’s world. “Ally knew that she didn’t have much to offer in terms of fitting into farm life and stuff. She didn’t really have a job or anything,” Lily claimed. “She was aware of that.”
According to Lily, Ally compensated by monopolising Dylan’s time. “When she was in any group setting, she would pull Dylan aside and take him away for ages, and she would do that every single time. And all of us girls were like, ‘Oh my God, this is ridiculous!’ She’d take him for hours and hours. I’m sure the producers had something to do with that as well.”
One of the most glaring examples came during a night when the women were taken to play footy. “It was early in the night, and then they went off. We didn’t see them again for the rest of the night,” Lily recalled. She also flagged the black-tie dinner episode, where Ally “swooped in.” “That was constant from Ally, and like good on her. She played the game very well.”
Lily was unsurprised when Dylan selected Ally. “I wasn’t surprised. I think it was pretty obvious.”
Beyond the relationship itself, Lily described interpersonal friction. She said Ally frequently called herself a “girl’s girl” while, in Lily’s view, behaving differently behind the scenes. “She did like call herself a girl’s girl all the time, but then would go behind everyone’s backs and do shady stuff. I feel like that is a bit of a red flag,” Lily stated. “I think she’s a nice girl, but just not someone that I would choose to be friends with on the outside.”
Age also played a role in the dynamic. “It’s hard being in this environment when you’re in forced proximity with all these girls. You want to try and get along. But I think the age difference for me is the biggest thing. It’s hard to be friends with girls who are 21 years old.”
Lily even questioned the casting itself. “Is anyone looking for a wife at 24 years old?” she asked of Dylan. “I get it. They want the show to appeal to a younger audience. Maybe we should call it something like Farmer Wanted A Girlfriend?”
Post-show, Lily’s own contact with Dylan cooled. They had been on decent terms after she left the farm—she checked in to make sure there were no hard feelings—but that changed once the series aired and tension between Lily and Ally became public. “He wasn’t really a fan of that and the stuff I was saying in articles. I think it’s really difficult to have a positive relationship with girls when you were chasing the same man.
