Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s staff might have gotten a little bit smaller as they restructure and rename their Archewell Foundation as Archewell Philanthropies.
Following reports that three staffers were let go from their jobs at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s charitable organization, a spokesperson for the couple tells PEOPLE, “The move toward a fiscal sponsor operating model does mean that some staff redundancies are inevitable, particularly with junior admin roles.”
“We will not be discussing these personnel details further, other than to say that we are honored to have worked with incredibly talented and caring people who dedicate themselves to helping others,” the spokesperson added.

The update came after the Daily Mail reported on Dec. 21 that three members of the staff at the organization previously known as the Archewell Foundation were let go. The Daily Mail reported that the affected staff were told their positions were being cut “because the charity was closing.”
The Archewell Foundation is not closing but rather restructuring as Archewell Philanthropies. Prince Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, announced the news on Friday, Dec. 19, as the organization marks its fifth anniversary.
“This next chapter allows Prince Harry and Meghan, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, to broaden their global philanthropic efforts as a family, with meaningful reach and maximum impact, grounded in the same values, partnerships, and their commitment to show up and do good,” the announcement said.
A statement shared to Archewell Philanthropies’ website also referred to the couple’s children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, and their place in long-term philanthropic identity Harry and Meghan are building as a family.

“After five beautiful years, the Archewell Foundation is becoming Archewell Philanthropies. This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavors as a family,” the statement said, in part.
PEOPLE understands that Archewell Philanthropies will still operate within a nonprofit structure, but now use a fiscal sponsorship model. The popular setup gives charitable projects more room to grow globally.
Prince Harry and Meghan launched the Archewell Foundation in 2020 on a mission to “show up, do good” after stepping back from their royal roles in the U.K. earlier that year.
Today, the new operating model positions Archewell Philanthropies as a long-term family enterprise rather than a tightly managed standalone foundation tied to their day-to-day involvement. The move to a “philanthropies” model signals something designed to grow and evolve over time, with more flexibility and less administrative weight.
Under the new model, an established 501(c)(3) will oversee the administrative side, including compliance, finances and global grantmaking. Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to guide the mission itself, establishing priorities and choosing the initiatives and partnerships the organization supports.

In November, Harry and Meghan brought their children to volunteer as the Archewell Foundation partnered with Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles to prepare meals before Thanksgiving.
Photos from the event showed Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet participating in the packaging line with their parents and the year-end video Archewell Philanthropies released last week showed Lilibet helping Harry push a sheet pan rack and Meghan dancing alongside Archie.
