Meghan Markle just suffered a new blow – it’s coming from an unexpected place

The duchess must be getting jealous on the other side of the pond, Express reporter Adam Toms suggests

Peter Phillips, the King’s nephew, and Harriet Phillips, née Sperling, tied the knot last week at a church in a small Gloucestershire village. Members of the Royal Family, including the monarch and Queen Camilla, William, the Prince of Wales, and Catherine, the Princess of Wales, turned up to the idyllic setting to watch the couple exchange their vows. Afterwards, celebrations were held at Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park, between the villages of Minchinhampton and Avening.

The couple – who purportedly first met at a sporting event attended by their daughters from previous relationships – showed great dignity, turning up in front of the cameras, getting married inside All Saints’ Church in Kemble, and then once again appearing in front of fans and the media, officially as husband and wife. Harriet, a relatively unknown NHS nurse, has acquired some new fans following the ceremony after stunning in her dress, designed by Emilia Wickstead. She and her husband are being thought of as a modern example for the Firm, as it adapts to operating deeper into the 21st century.

Royal expert Tessa Dunlop talked about Harriet’s “quiet Christian faith and NHS work ethic” to the Sun, adding that “she ­provides the blueprint for a ­modern, unshowy monarchy”.

The bride is “the real deal”, Ms Dunlop added.

“Here is a woman who, as a ­divorcee and single parent, speaks to modern, blended Britain, and likewise as a middle-aged nurse puts the public-sector worker into the royals’ famed life of service.”

The expert also praised the tone of Peter and Harriet’s wedding as “gloriously modest and incontrovertibly English”.

Harriet seems to be everything Meghan Markle is not.

The divorced American was hailed by some upon her marriage to Prince Harry as a new, modern face of the monarchy, who had a wider reach, and could appeal to different types of people in Britain and across the world.

Things looked to be going alright, before she and Harry threw their promising future down the pan, becoming a minor celebrity in California who throws mud at her new family, instead of a vital cog in the Crown’s machinery.

The duchess yearns attention and public adoration, and cannot bear being told no, it seems.

Harriet, on the face of it, is just what the monarchy needs, despite she and her husband being far down the line of succession (Peter is 19th in line).

I bet Meghan is feeling some twangs of jealousy across the pond nonetheless.
