The k!:ller who caused the d3:ath of an 18-year-old student with an unprovoked one-punch att@:ck has returned to legal trouble after serving 11 years in prison
More than a decade after committing the shocking attack that claimed the life of innocent teenager Thomas Kelly, Kieran Loveridge (32) has become the center of public outrage once again as he faces drug-related charges.

The incident occurred at Loveridge’s private residence in Glendenning last April, when police discovered a bag of heroin next to his bed. Notably, this took place just one month before his parole period was set to end.
During a hearing at Mount Druitt court this Wednesday, defense lawyer Andrew Sant provided a controversial justification for this re-offense. Mr. Sant argued that Loveridge becoming a father had inadvertently stirred up remorse for what he had inflicted on Thomas Kelly’s family. “The birth of his young child seemed to be a catalyst for an acute period of shame and guilt … having taken that opportunity from that young man,” lawyer Andrew Sant told the court.
Previously, in 2012, Loveridge delivered an unprovoked punch to Thomas Kelly (18) in the King’s Cross area, resulting in the victim’s death and triggering the implementation of controversial “lockout laws” in Sydney. Recalling the pain of that loss, Kathy Kelly—the victim’s mother—once poignantly shared: “I think the thing that’s the hardest for me to try and comprehend is that he lost his life for nothing,”.
Despite having a serious criminal record, Loveridge managed to avoid a new prison sentence for this latest offense. Instead, the court ruled to impose a six-month community corrections order, with the mandatory condition that he must continue medical treatment for drug abuse.
This court decision is facing a wave of criticism from the public, especially after the government’s application to extend his supervision order for the manslaughter sentence was rejected in May. Amidst public pressure, New South Wales Premier Chris Minns stated: “I particularly understand the victim’s families who’d be, you know, very worried and horrified by this decision,”.
