Where Is Al Roker? ‘Today’ Fans Concerned as Beloved Host Takes Time Away to ‘Recharge’ After Week-Long Absence

Al Roker's Today Show co-hosts left repulsed by star following his latest interview | HELLO!

NEW YORK CITY — Viewers of NBC’s Today show have been left puzzled — and a little worried — after longtime weather anchor Al Roker vanished from the morning program for more than a week.

The 71-year-old TV veteran, who has been a familiar face on American television for nearly five decades, last appeared on air on October 14, and fans quickly noticed his sudden absence.

While speculation swirled on social media about possible health concerns, Roker himself has now addressed the situation — and reassured fans that his brief disappearance is nothing to worry about.

“I’m just taking some time to recharge and reinvest,” Roker wrote in a calm, reflective Instagram post shared from his Hudson Valley home on October 24. “See you next week on Today.”

A Familiar Face Missing From Mornings

For millions of Americans, Al Roker isn’t just the weather guy — he’s part of the morning routine. His warmth, humor, and signature charm have helped define Today for over 25 years, making his absence all the more noticeable.

The last time Roker appeared live on air was during the October 14 broadcast, where he presented his usual weather updates and participated in several lighthearted segments with co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Craig Melvin.

After that, fans began noticing he hadn’t been back on set. His colleague Dylan Dreyer — who often steps in when Roker is away — took over weather duties in his absence.

While NBC did not release an official statement, multiple sources close to the network confirmed to TV Insider that Roker’s absence was pre-planned and not related to any health emergency.

Fans Flood Social Media With Concern

Still, that didn’t stop viewers from worrying.

Within days of his disappearance, Today fans took to X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram to ask where Roker had gone — and if he was doing okay.

“Has anyone seen Al Roker lately? Hope he’s all right — mornings just aren’t the same without him,” one fan wrote.

Another said, “The energy of the show changes when Al’s not there. He’s the sunshine on cloudy days — we miss him!”

Others speculated that the beloved anchor might be facing new health problems, referencing his past medical struggles.

A History of Resilience

Roker’s health has been the subject of headlines in recent years. In November 2022, the veteran broadcaster was hospitalized twice for blood clots in his legs and lungs, forcing him to take a prolonged break from Today that lasted several weeks.

He returned in early 2023 to a hero’s welcome — greeted by his co-hosts, production team, and even viewers gathered outside Rockefeller Plaza holding “Welcome Back, Al!” signs.

At the time, Roker said the experience was “the scariest thing” he’d ever faced but credited his wife, Deborah Roberts, and his doctors for saving his life.

“I’m a living, breathing example of why you should never take your health for granted,” Roker said on air after returning. “Every day is a gift.”

Given that history, fans’ immediate concern this time around is understandable. But thankfully, Roker’s latest absence appears to be nothing more than a well-earned break.

On October 24, Roker finally put the rumors to rest by sharing a video from his picturesque Hudson Valley property, surrounded by autumn trees painted in gold and crimson.

Dressed casually in a plaid jacket and cap, Roker spoke directly to fans about the beauty of the changing seasons — and the importance of taking time to slow down.

“Autumn is one of the most underrated seasons,” he said. “It’s a time for reflection, for recharging — a reminder that it’s okay to pause.”

He added that he’s been spending time with his family, taking walks, cooking, and enjoying quiet mornings away from the camera.

“Life gets busy, and sometimes you just need to breathe,” he wrote in his caption.

The post instantly calmed worried fans, drawing more than 100,000 likes and thousands of supportive comments.

“You deserve the rest, Al!” one follower commented. “Recharge and come back stronger!”

Another added, “You’ve carried us through storms — now take your sunshine break.”

Colleagues Send Their Love

Roker’s Today co-hosts have also chimed in with affection and support.

Hoda Kotb shared a comment on his post:

“We miss you, Al! The studio isn’t the same without your laugh — but so glad you’re getting the rest you need!”

Craig Melvin reposted the video on his story with the caption, “Enjoy the downtime, big man. We’ll hold down the fort.”

NBC sources say the weather legend is expected to return to the show next week, in time for the start of the November ratings period.

The Power of a Pause

After more than 40 years in broadcasting, Roker has more than earned the right to step away, even briefly. Known for his boundless positivity and relentless work ethic, he’s often the first in the studio and the last to leave.

Fans may miss his morning cheer, but his message is clear: sometimes even the sunniest people need a little time to shine for themselves.

“I’m recharging and reinvesting,” Roker wrote. “And I’ll see you soon.”

For millions of loyal Today viewers, that’s all they needed to hear.
