Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to have a busy few weeks ahead as his house move from Royal Lodge is believed to be imminent. The former Duke of York is expected to wave goodbye to the 30-room Windsor mansion within days and move hours away to Marsh Farm – a home on King Charles’s private Sandringham Estate.
Marsh Farm will be a big change for the former prince, who for the last two decades has been used to living in a large sprawling Crown Estate property. While Andrew will live a very private life at his new home, it will come with an unexpected rule he must abide by.
The rule is that the former prince cannot have a cat. While this may seem like an unusual rule for Andrew, it is believed to be one that multiple people living on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk must follow.
As reported by Hello! Magazine, the estate has lots of local wildlife like pheasants and other game birds that cats could pose a risk to. It is believed the rule was put in place by Queen Elizabeth II.
While Andrew, 65, will not be allowed to own a cat, he may be able to keep dogs at his new home.
This could be good news for the former prince, who has had ownership of the late Queen’s dogs Muick and Sandy since she died in 2022.
If the former prince is not allowed to have dogs at his new home, it has already been confirmed that they will “remain with the family” in some capacity, which could mean they live with Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, who lived at Royal Lodge with Andrew.

She will, however, not be moving with Andrew to Marsh Farm.
Although Andrew is yet to call Marsh Farm home, it is believed that the property is already getting renovated ahead of his arrival. So far, fences have been put up around the home along with CCTV and security systems.

Pest control has also been seen going into the property, which has reportedly been empty for some time.
An exact move-in date has not been confirmed; however, it is believed if the home is not ready by the time Andrew hands over the keys to Royal Lodge, then he will be housed somewhere else on the Sandringham Estate temporarily.
