In the wake of DJ Warras’ brutal murder, his family, friends, and colleagues gathered in Johannesburg to honour and celebrate the life of a man whose voice and presence defined an era of South African broadcasting. The beloved radio and television personality was shot and killed on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, sending shockwaves through the entertainment industry and leaving fans across the country in absolute disbelief.

Best known for his time on Live Amp and the iconic phrase, “Take it easy, and if it’s easy, take it home,” DJ Warras left an indelible mark on everyone who crossed his path. Among the speakers at the memorial service was his close friend and former co-host, Pearl Thusi, who delivered a deeply emotional tribute that brought the room to a standstill.

Overcome with grief, Pearl struggled to hold back tears as she spoke, her words often muffled by sobs. Standing alongside her daughter, Thando, she reached out to Warras’ family with a message of solidarity and sorrow, apologising that they were forced to endure such a devastating loss. Drawing from her own experience as a single mother, Pearl spoke about fatherhood and described Warras’ partner and children as “so blessed” to have had him as a present, loving, and devoted father.

Pearl also reflected on the loss of both her own parents and shared her belief in life beyond death, expressing hope that DJ Warras’ spirit would continue to live on — guiding, protecting, and watching over his family in the years to come.

In one of the most heartbreaking moments of the service, Pearl Thusi’s daughter, Thando, also stepped forward to speak. With a soft, childlike voice, she remembered DJ Warras as a beloved “uncle” — someone who brought warmth, laughter, and kindness into their home. Her simple yet sincere words pierced the silence, and many in the audience were left in tears. It was a powerful reminder that DJ Warras’ impact extended far beyond his career, touching even the youngest lives around him.
