A London court has heard devastating new details surrounding the death of a 24-year-old mother who was allegedly attacked inside her own home while sleeping beside her husband and their three-month-old baby.
Prosecutors allege that the family’s quiet Sunday morning was shattered when a man forced his way into their west London home before entering the bedroom where they were asleep.
The defendant, Daniel Sean James, 46, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. He has not yet entered pleas to the charges, and the allegations remain before the court.
Husband Awoke to His Wife’s Screams
According to prosecutors at the Old Bailey, the incident unfolded shortly before 8 a.m. on Sunday at the family’s home on Uxbridge Road in Hayes.
The court heard that James allegedly kicked in the front door before making his way to the bedroom, where Kirandeep Kaur, her husband and their infant son were sleeping.
Prosecutor Charlene Sumnall told the court that Kaur’s husband woke to the sound of his wife’s screams and saw a figure leaving the bedroom moments later.
Emergency services were called, but Kaur had suffered a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 8:26 a.m.
Another Victim Was Allegedly Attacked Minutes Earlier
The court also heard that prosecutors allege James attacked another man shortly before arriving at the family’s home.
According to the prosecution, a man in his 20s was allegedly stabbed in the back on a nearby street only minutes before the fatal incident.
That alleged attack forms the basis of the attempted murder charge.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed any connection between the earlier incident and the family.
Suspect Arrested After Alleged Escape
Following the alleged attack, prosecutors say James jumped from a window while leaving the property, breaking both ankles.
Police located and detained him nearby before he was taken to hospital for treatment.
After receiving medical care, he was formally charged with:

Attempted murder
Possession of a bladed article
Court Sets Next Hearing

James appeared before the Old Bailey via video link from Wormwood Scrubs prison.
Judge Nigel Lickley KC scheduled a plea hearing for 1 October and ordered that the defendant remain in custody pending further proceedings.
As is standard in criminal proceedings, the charges have not yet been tested in court, and James is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
Community Mourns Young Mother’s Death
The death of Kirandeep Kaur has left the local community in shock.
The alleged attack occurred inside what prosecutors described as the family’s bedroom, with the couple’s three-month-old baby nearby.
Police have not announced a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence ahead of future court hearings.
The case is expected to return to the Old Bailey later this year.
