A grieving mother says she is ‘shattered’ after her four-year-old daughter was killed in a horror two-car crash.

Layna Leavy was inside a Holden Astra when it crashed into a Ford Mustang in Canning Vale in Perth‘s southeast on Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses heard a loud bang and a child screaming.

Locals rushed to the intersection of Boardman Road and Garden Street to provide assistance before Layna was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital by ambulance.

Despite the efforts of hospital staff, she could not be saved.

Saoirse Wynne, 32, described her daughter as ‘the happiest girl I ever knew’.

‘Our hearts are shattered into a million pieces,’ she wrote in a statement on Friday.

‘Four years on this earth was never long enough. I hope you felt nothing but love in your life and loved every single adventure we went on.

A memorial appeared near the crash site in the hours following the tragedy (pictured)

‘I hope you continue to sing and dance in the sky and forever in our hearts. Mammy loves you, my baby girl, forever four.’

Layna’s mother and her eight-year-old brother were also inside the Holden Astra.  They were both taken to hospital and have since been discharged.

The Mustang driver, a 29-year-old woman, only suffered minor injuries.

Flowers and teddy bears have been placed at a makeshift memorial near Boardman Road and Garden Street as the family and community grieve.

‘Heartbroken for you, Saoirse. I can’t fathom how life can be so unimaginably cruel. You haven’t left my thoughts. Sending you and your family all of my love through this devastating time. RIP beautiful Layna,’ one person wrote on Instagram.

‘The happiest, luckiest girl to have had you as her mammy, she knew nothing but love. What an absolute privilege it was to know her, the brightest star in the sky. Sleep tight beautiful Layna, you will be missed more than you’ll ever know,’ another said.

‘It honestly breaks our hearts. We have little kids at home, so we’re honestly like holding our little ones really (tight) last night,’ a Canning Vale local told 7News.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information on the crash to contact Crime Stoppers.
