A serious case of property destruction and public disorder caused by a foreign national recently occurred in the heart of Da Nang, leaving the local community in utter shock. An Australian man has been apprehended by law enforcement following an unprovoked violent outburst, during which he destroyed a wide range of expensive equipment and personal belongings of customers at a local cafe.

The harrowing incident took place on Thursday at Ge Cafe, a business establishment located in the Hai Chau District of Da Nang. The entire rapid and violent sequence of actions perpetrated by the suspect was captured in full by the cafe’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) system. According to footage trised and updates shared by Ge Cafe management on social media, the root cause of the violent outbreak stemmed from a minor misunderstanding in daily communication.

Specifically, the foreign man entered the cafe and selected a table to sit down. Seeing this, a staff member approached to remind him that he needed to proceed to the counter to place his order and pay, in accordance with the shop’s policy. Due to the language barrier, a kind customer sitting nearby proactively offered his personal phone, opening a translation app to help the foreign man and the staff member communicate. However, instead of using it to converse and returning it, the Australian man held onto the phone, arbitrarily scrolling through and reading all of the customer’s private messages.

Noticing the abnormal and privacy-violating behavior, the cafe staff quickly contacted security for assistance. However, before the employee could even run to summon security, the foreign man suddenly stood up, ripped off his shirt, and slammed the customer’s phone onto the table. Immediately following this was a wave of uncontrolled, frenzied destruction.

The shirtless man began grabbing nearby furniture, throwing chairs directly through the cafe’s tempered glass doors and windows. Not stopping there, the suspect entered the bar area, completely smashing modern machine equipment and all of the shop’s decor items. The suspect’s aggression escalated as he vented his anger onto the belongings of frantic customers who were fleeing, intentionally smashing multiple expensive laptops and phones left on the tables. Surveillance footage even captured terrifying moments when the man put a male customer in a headlock and used physical force to grab and push another person.

Because this entire destructive rampage took place on the first floor, the sole exit was blocked, leaving numerous customers on the second and third floors terrified and completely trapped, unable to escape.

Upon receiving the emergency report, local police arrived in front of the store within approximately five minutes. Discovering the presence of authorities, the suspect panicked and attempted to find a way out by running to the second floor. On the outdoor patio area, police officers had to grapple with, surround, and close in to restrain the suspect as he continuously screamed and violently resisted. Ultimately, the rioting individual was handcuffed and escorted out to a patrol vehicle wearing nothing but a pair of shorts.

According to a preliminary estimate from a Hai Chau ward official, the total value of property smashed and damaged during this violent rampage exceeds $20,000 AUD.

Management of Ge Cafe revealed that after the shocking incident went viral, they received numerous offers of financial donations and material support from both the local community and foreign residents in Da Nang. However, the cafe respectfully declined these offers. Currently, the cafe will remain closed for several days to clean up the extensive wreckage and fully repair the destroyed infrastructure. As for the Australian national, he remains in police detention for questioning as authorities continue their investigation and proceed with strict legal actions in accordance with Vietnamese law.
