Reform councillor Darren Grimes appeared on Sky News Australia to address reports that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are producing a feature film about the Afghanistan war for Netflix. It’s understood that the couple will take part in making a film adaptation of the book No Way Out: The Searing True Story of Men Under Siege.

“Have these two not given up already?” Sky News host Danica De Giorgio said. “How many failed ventures do they need to have before they go, ‘OK, maybe we should just leave the public eye?’ But no, they are back on Netflix. Another venture, apparently.”

Darren said it was like “whack a mole where you get rid of one thing, and then another pops up.

“I understand there was a genuine fellow kingship with his fellow servicemen,” Darren added, “but actually I am not sure the veterans are crying out for a Sussex-produced drama exploring the emotional journey and turmoil from a Duchess who comes to realise that war is, I don’t know, she’s probably going to say something like, ‘It’s super problematic’.”

“Just spare me, just spare me,” he continued. “It absolutely grates on me, and he’s going to say he’s discovered his truth since leaving the Royal Family – what’s next? Is Meghan going to voiceover a documentary on the Falkland Islands?”

As the host laughed, Darren added: “It’s an absurdity.” However, Danica said “anything is possible” and joked that “as long as there is good publicity”, the pair “know no bounds”.

Deadline has reported that the project is part of the Sussexes’ ongoing partnership with Netflix.

Harry’s military career ended in 2015, but he completed two deployments to Afghanistan, including a 10-week assignment in Helmand province.
