Johannesburg, South Africa — The South African entertainment industry is in shock following the tragic shooting of Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock, the renowned radio and club DJ, TV presenter, podcaster, and VIP protection service owner. DJ Warras was fatally shot on Tuesday afternoon in Johannesburg at the age of 40, leaving behind three children and countless fans and colleagues heartbroken.
Stock, also known as Shady Lurker, was a former producer at 5FM and Cliff Central, and became a familiar face on television through shows like Live AMP and The Man Cave. He was also the founder of JT VIP: Elite Guarding & VIP Protection Services, handling VIP and building security.

The fatal incident occurred at the corner of Von Wielligh and Commissioner Street, in front of the Carlton Centre. According to Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department superintendent Xolani Fihla, DJ Warras was approached by three suspects who opened fire, killing him before fleeing the scene. The area was cordoned off, and the South African Police Service has launched a full criminal investigation.
Social media quickly filled with grief and tributes. Businessman and close friend Rob Hersov wrote:
“He was the most loving, compassionate, honest, and decent human being. This is a tragedy beyond belief. Warras, we love you, we miss you, may you rest in peace, brother.”
DJ Warras’s final moments on television have also become profoundly poignant. During the reality show Ngicel’iVisa on Mzansi Magic, Warras shared joyful, intimate moments with his children and his girlfriend — laughter, hugs, and genuine warmth — only to be tragically cut short days later. Fans recalled seeing him smile and interact lovingly with his kids on-screen, unaware that these would be the last glimpses of a vibrant life. One fan commented, “Watching those moments now breaks my heart. We lost someone truly special.”
Mzansi Magic and colleagues expressed their deepest condolences:
“DJ Warras was a talented storyteller, a passionate music lover, and a vibrant presence. His dedication to creativity left an indelible mark on our channels and the South African entertainment industry. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who loved him during this difficult time.”
Born in Durban, Warrick Stock was raised by his grandparents and mother, never knowing his father. He began his radio career at YFM in 2008, later moving to 5FM. In 2012, he transitioned to television, co-hosting Live AMP alongside Luthando Shosha. Four years later, he joined The Man Cave on SABC3, hosting seasons 5, 6, and 7.
In March 2024, DJ Warras launched The Shady PHodcast on The Real Network, and in October 2025, he began presenting the new reality show Ngicel’iVisa on Mzansi Magic, emphasizing that the show reflected real-life experiences that could happen to anyone.
A decade ago, he shared with Move! magazine how his grandparents shaped him:
“My grandfather insisted I educate myself so I could do everything independently. I am who I am today because of the people who raised me, and I am forever grateful.”
DJ Warras also reflected on fatherhood:
“Being a father has made me more responsible and cautious. My sons are my life. Even though I am no longer with the mother of one of my children, we are doing a great job taking care of him.”
Now, the South African entertainment world mourns the loss of a father, a friend, a passionate entertainer, and a loving soul. His final moments on screen — full of life, laughter, and love — will be remembered forever.
