Des announced the devastating news in an emotional Instagram post on Sunday.

She wrote: “John recently passed away from natural causes. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN MR. WEST.

“Thank you to everyone that reached out. I appreciate everyone!”

Des added a picture of her brother captioned “In Loving Memory of My Brother. RIP MY HANDSOME GUY.”

Within hours, stunned followers flooded social media with messages of grief, with more than 110,000 comments posted in just three hours.

R&B star SZA commented under the post: “Nooooo I’m so sorry!!”

John’s online journey began in 2024 when Des started documenting their life together after gaining legal guardianship of her brother.

She previously raised concerns about abuse and neglect while he was under the care of former caretakers.

As news of his death spread, fans struggled to come to terms with the loss.

“For those unaware, this beautiful, very special soul, John West has passed from natural causes according to his family,” one Twitter user wrote.

They added: “May he rest in as much joy as he gave us all.”

They continued: “I just saw a video of him at church looking healthy and everything, what the heck!?!”

Others remembered the moments that made John such a beloved figure online.

“I was just laughing at them from their video the other day when his girl put him in that all black fit,” one commenter wrote.

As questions emerged over the cause of death, Des shared further details about her brother’s health history.

“Many of you are new here and may have assumed that John was simply a healthy man with autism, but that wasn’t the case,” she wrote in a separate post.

“For years he faced a number of serious health challenges. While his health had improved significantly over the past two years, he had a long history of medical issues.”

Despite those challengers, followers said John always appeared happy, vibrant and full of life in the videos shared online.

One of his most popular moments saw him preparing for his college graduation, inspiring thousands of fans.

Many also said John’s story highlighted the need for better support and protection for vulnerable adults.

“May he rest in peace, and hopefully his story also pushes more awareness around safeguarding autistic and vulnerable adults,” one commenter wrote.

Des later thanked supporters for the overwhelming outpouring of love following her brother’s death.

Together, Des and Uncle John built a community that reached more than 1.3 million followers, sharing laughs, milestones and daily life with millions around the world.
