According to a criminal complaint, Woody engaged in sexual intercourse with the inmate on or about June 20.
The charge falls under Alabama Code Section 14-11-31, which makes it a crime for correctional employees to engage in sexual conduct with someone in state custody.
Authorities said the inmate involved is serving life without the possibility of parole following a 2014 murder and first-degree assault conviction in Elmore County.
Woody’s arrest comes after authorities said an investigation was conducted by the Alabama Department of Corrections into allegations of prohibited activities at the facility.
Alabama correctional authorities added that the 42-year-old has since been terminated from her contracted position.
Woody was booked into the St. Clair County Jail. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 29.
