The body of an 11-year-old girl was found in a river in Scotland hours after her family reported she was missing.
Faith Curran’s family reported that the young girl was missing on Aug. 6 around 12:40 p.m. in the Gore Glen area of Midlothian, Police Scotland Midlothian said in a statement.
Curran’s body was discovered in the river near Shanks Bridge around 4:25 p.m., and her family was alerted. Her death is being treated as “unexplained,” but authorities say they do not believe there are any “suspicious circumstances.” Scotland’s public prosecutor, the Procurator Fiscal, will conduct a review into her death, police said.
Curran was remembered by her family as a “happy, adventurous, and outgoing girl who enjoyed life.” A memorial was created at Gore Glen Woodland Park, with a teddy bear and flowers placed together on the bridge, the BBC reports.
The Gore Glen is Scotland’s first industrial-scale gunpowder mill and was established in 1794. Midlothian is approximately 11 miles south of Edinburgh.
